Just few hours passed since we wrote about upcoming Huawei Glory 4/Honor 4 smartphone. http://huaweinews.com/2013/11/release-octa-core-honor-4/ . Now we were able to find a picture of Glory/Honor 4 posted on Weibo microblogging site. As seen on above photo Huawei Honor 4 seems to have a simple but elegant design. However it doesn’t look much different than the previous Honor 3 except the upper bezel seems to be reduced on this new Honor 4.
Like we mentioned on our previous post, Design isn’t really the thing which makes Honor 4 an awesome smartphone. It’s all new MediaTek’s true Octa-Core processor. MediaTek is a Chinese processor manufacturer and they make their own processor designs following ARM structure. MediaTek is different than Qualcomm and Samsung because they focuses on the budget smartphone market and low price processors. However things seems to be changing with the introduction of new industries first true octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor which is said to be the brain of upcoming Honor 4.
As seen on the above figure taken from MediaTek’s web site, MT6592 is a true octa-core processor unlike Samsung Exynos Octa-Core processor present in Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. MT6592 enables all 8 cores to work at once unlike only 4 active cores on Exynos. Benchmarks of MT6592 has been leaked lately and it achieved around 30000 score in Antutu benchmark. That score is still behind quad core Snapdragon 800 processor but for the price point of MT6592 we cant really complain.
MT6592 processor runs at 1.7Ghz to 2Ghz clock speed and it supports 1080P 30fps video capture. However common problem of current MediaTek processors is that resource intensive Apps such as 3D games doesn’t run very well because those aren’t optimized to run on the MediaTek processors. But things will run faster and efficiently on these new processors because of improved instruction sets.
Having MT6592 on Honor 4 might be a disadvantage for the upcoming Ascend P6S because from the leaked information we know that Ascend P6S has a a slower processor compared to MT6592. http://huaweinews.com/2013/10/ascend-p6s-with-k3v2plus/ . Huawei is set to release Honor 4 next month and maybe Ascend P6S will be released at the same time.
