This is actually news more than just a guide. If you own an Huawei Ascend Mate and you are interested in custom ROM’s and other mods you might have noticed that Ascend Mate comes with a locked bootloader just like Ascend P6 and other Huawei smartphones. Unlocked bootloader is a requirement for most custom ROM’s and kernels because without an unlocked bootloader you are pretty much left with the stock firmwares. Some clever developers came up with ways to bootloader unlock some of the Huawei’s popular smartphones but until yesterday, there wasn’t a way to unlock the Ascend Mate’s bootloader.

XDA member “joe.stone” discovered a way to unlock the bootloader of his Ascend Mate with few easy steps and he posted the details on XDA forums and early adopters reported that they were able to bootloader unlock their Ascend Mate’s by following the steps provided by joe. You can do the same if you have some spare time and willing to take the risk if something goes wrong. You need to have the USB drivers installed first and joe has provided everything on his XDA thread which you can find at the bottom of this post.

Note that your warranty might be lost and you will have to flash the stock recovery again if you want to flash the Huawei’s official firmwares by using the update.app method. Your current firmware version doesn’t matter for unlocking the bootloader. Joe has provided all the steps to follow with download links and steps on getting back to the stock recovery with few easy steps.
