If you are a regular reader of this web site, Huawei’s upcoming HiSilicon Kirin 920 processor won’t be new to you. Kirin 920 is the processor said to be powering the upcoming Ascend D3 and many other upcoming top end Huawei smartphones. We have wrote a detailed post about Kirin 920 right here – http://huaweinews.com/2014/02/ascend-d3-kirin-920/. Recent leaks shown us that Kirin 920 is a 8 core ARM big.LITTLE concept based processor built on 28nm architecture and even though we knew the details we haven’t been able to see any performance metrics of the Kirin 920 until now.

Antutu benchmark of a mysterious Huawei device powered by Kirin 920 processor leaked today and we are surprised to see that, this time it blows away the current competitors such as Qualcomm and Samsung. Kirin 920 only fails below the Snapdragon 805 and Nvidia Tegra K1 processors but both of those aren’t available yet and Tegra K1 processors aren’t built for use on tablets or smartphones because of its high power consumption.

We guess the bench marked device is Ascend D3 since the Antutu benchmark reveals the device ID as Huawei H300 and all other specifications matches with the Ascend D3 leaks we had so far. ARM Mali-T624MP4 GPU is used on this processor and its interesting to see the benchmark scores surpassing the processors like Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 because that one is used on various recently announced flagship devices such as Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2.

Kirin 920 processor supports screen resolutions up to 2560 x 1440 (2K) and maximum RAM support seems to be limited at 2GB as seen on the first picture above. It can also support camera’s up to 32 mega pixels. Above screenshots displays the processor speed as 1.3Ghz but that’s probably the clock speed of small Cortex A7 cores and the high powered Cortex A15 cores will run at 1.8Ghz speed.

2 years ago when Huawei released the K3V2 processor it also surpassed the competition and made huge buzz around smartphone enthusiasts. But it faced a lot of delays and when a real device using it came out after long time, K3V2 wasn’t a huge deal like it was before. So if Huawei fails to release a device using this shiny new Kirin 920 processor before Qualcomm releases Snapdragon 805 it will be too late for them. So lets keep our fingers crossed until Ascend D3 comes out.
