Ascend P7 is just few months old and doing well on sales. Huawei seems to be having a blast with all the budget smartphone releases lately and strong sales figures but that isn’t going to stop the company from planning for the future. Just few hours ago Chinese smartphone news sites published a photo that you can see above, saying that its the upcoming Huawei Ascend P8.

If it holds true Ascend P8 looks really elegant and simple just like the previous Ascend P6 and P7 smartphones. Even though Huawei’s other phones like Honor 6 and Mate 7 surpasses the Ascend P7 flagship in specifications, Ascend P7 is the Huawei’s proclaimed flagship worldwide smartphone and Ascend P series might continue to be that for a while.

With the leaked photo the sources has mentioned that Ascend P8 will feature Huawei owned Hisilicon’s upcoming Kirin 930 8 core processor built on 16nm FINFET process. HiSilicon has came a long way and ultra powerful Kirin 925 on Ascend Mate 7 is the prime example for that. Kirin 930 is believed to be using ARM’s Big.LITTLE architecture with 4 Cortex-A15 cores for heavy loads and 4 Cortex-A7 cores to process light tasks. Unlike the first generations of Big.LITTLE cores, these new processors have the ability to process workloads on all 8 cores at once thanks to the ARM’s HMP (Heterogeneous multi-processing) technology.

The screen on upcoming Ascend P8 is also believed to be 5.2 inches in size with a resolution of 1080P which seems odd by today’s 2K standards. Also the sources has mentioned that the screen is curved on sides just like on the Iphone 6. If these leaks are true Ascend P8 will also feature an metal body with porcelain texture back cover and will cost 2999 yuans which is about $490.

Release date is unknown but its believed that Ascend P8 will appear on the next years CES tech show which is scheduled to be start on January 6th next year in Las Vegas USA.
