Got tired waiting for the Ascend Mate firmware updates? 2015 is almost here and we know how you feel about using Android 4.2.2 on your smartphone while every one is talking about Android 5.0 Lollipop. Even though the Ascend Mate runs identical hardware as Ascend P6, Huawei seems to have dropped the Ascend Mate from their update plans. However this doesn’t stop developers from tinkering their devices and bringing the new versions of Android for your Ascend Mate.

XDA developers member “gold-concert” has ported Cyanogenmod 11 which is based on Android 4.4.4 to the Ascend Mate and the initial alpha build seems to be very good so we would get our hopes up about the future releases. Porting of this ROM was started just few days ago and still its in the very first build as we stated earlier. After reading user feedback about this release, it seems like developer was able to get most of the things right at his first attempt.

Most of the features are working including WiFi,mobile data, touch screen,Bluetooth,GPS and camera. Known issues at the moment of writing seems to be that the sound is reported to be not working and few problems with memory resulting inability to save photos. However these issues will probably be fixed with time so be sure to frequently check the XDA thread which we have linked below.

The developer has reported that there is a workaround for sounds issue which is playing music through earphones and then unplugging it. Sound will start to work after this process but it will be gone after a reboot so you would have to do the same thing again to make sure sound works.

If you are thinking about flashing this ROM on your device at the moment, we advise you to read the whole thread and get a good idea about what works and what not. This ROM might not be suitable as a daily driver but you would be able to take a glimpse at Android 4.4 on your Ascend Mate.
