Huawei is lacking some 64bit goodness on their smartphone line up as 64bit is becoming the rage on smartphone industry these days. Huawei seems to have thought about the budget minded people who are expecting a 64bit smartphone at lesser price and as a result, Ascend G628 was born. Upcoming Ascend G628 is one of Huawei’s upcoming budget conscious device made to impress people without sacrificing any real world performance.

Huawei is using MediaTek’s latest octa-core MT6752 processor which is clocked at 1.5Ghz. MediaTek has become a serious player in the smartphone/tablet processor industry as of right now. Few years ago MeditaTek was just a low power budget friendly processor maker but now they have been releasing processors which can go head to head and sometimes faster than Qualcomm Snapdragon series processors. MediaTek recently unveiled a 64bit octa-core Cortex-A53 MT6752 and only few Chinese smartphone manufacturers are using it right now besides Huawei.

Ascend G628 has following specifications as per leaked details,

Model name – Huawei Ascend G628
Display – 5 inch IPS LCD 720P
Processor – MediaTEK MT6752
Camera – 8MP main with flash / 2MP front
Storage – 8GB
Android version – 4.4
EMUI version – 2.3
Connectivity – Dual SIM dual standby, TD-LTE/TD-SCDMA

It’s sad that Huawei is using Android 4.4 as the OS because Android 4.4 doesn’t have the support built in to achieve performance gains on 64bit processors. Android 4.4 is a 32bit OS while newly released Android 5.0 is fully 64bit compatible. However these specifications might change when they officially release it to the public. Ascend G628 was reported to be priced around $160 in Chinese region and there is no word about availability outside China just yet.
